Solution—Literally!

DIY Day!

Lately dandruff has been a bit annoying! With my african american hair it’s best to wash it once a week to maintain moisture….but what about dandruff?


I looked up some at home recipes and came up with what I hoped would make a difference. I always take a little of at least 5 recipes and choose 1, what I already have at home and 2, what was used most in all the recipes. Also what might smell the best!

I came up with this: (ok maybe I didn’t really measure stuff exactly)

White vinegar – 1 tsp-ish
Baking soda – 1 tsp-ish
Castile’s liquid soap – 1/4 cup (not pictured)
Alaffia shampoo – 1/4 cup
Jajoba oil – 1 dropper full
Lemon EO – 5 drops
Eucalyptus EO – 5 drops
Oregano EO – 5 drops
Tea tree EO – 5 drops (not pictured)

It worked beautifully after using about 1/4 of the mixture. I was very impressed with how clean and happy my scalp was and very excited I had to scalp irritation.

Dandruff can due to:

Irritated, oily skin.
Not shampooing enough.
**A yeastlike fungus (malassezia) that feeds on oils on the scalps of most adults.
Dry skin.
Sensitivity to hair care products (contact dermatitis)
Other skin conditions, such as psoriasis and eczema. **Yeast overgrowth and intestinal issues are a major factor here. Eliminate foods irritating to the gut.
