Is cholesterol bad?

Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in your blood that is needed by the body to build healthy cells. It is produced in the liver or consumed in the diet from animal products.

Cholesterol is a lipid. Lipids are fats and fatty substances used by the body as a source of energy.

Lipids include cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL).

So although it is necessary, it can also be driven out of control by a poor diet high in conventionally raised animal protein, processed foods, smoking, heavy alcohol consumption, vegetable/seed oils, gluten, processed meats, farm raised fish, sugar, trans fats, food additives and a sedentary lifestyle.


LDL: 100-200

VLDL: 5-30 mg/dl

HDL: 55-80
